Trending Charts on YouTube

YouTube Charts provide a dynamic daily spotlight on the most popular content from across the globe.

Charts vary by category, but you can find trending Charts for select content categories like Trending Movie Trailers and Trending Music Videos, and for Trending Gaming Videos via the Gaming Explore page.

Trending Charts aren’t personalized and display the same trending videos to all viewers in the same country, which is why you may see videos in Charts that aren't in the same language as your browser.

Trending Charts are updated roughly every 30 minutes. With each update, videos may move up, move down or stay in the same position in the Chart.

What determines if a video is ranked on Charts?

Amongst the many great new videos on YouTube on any given day, trending Charts can only show a limited number. Trending Charts aim to surface videos that:

Charts aim to balance all of these considerations. To achieve this, Trending considers many signals, including (but not limited to):

  • View count
  • How quickly the video’s view count (or ‘temperature’) is growing
  • Where views are coming from, including outside of YouTube
  • The topic of the videos
  • The age of the video
  • How the video performs compared to other recent uploads from the same channel

As these signals are combined to produce charts automatically, the video with the highest view count on a given day may not be #1 on a given trending chart, and videos with more views may be shown below videos with fewer views.

Note: Views from YouTube ads are not included in a video’s view count when measuring videos for trending charts.

We're very careful about the safety of what appears on trending charts, so we have filters to make sure that we don't show videos that contain excessive profanity, mature content or violence, or videos that are otherwise inappropriate, such as disparaging others in the community.

YouTube doesn't accept payment for placement on trending charts and doesn't favor specific creators.

Privacy settings for trending videos

A video can only appear on Charts if its privacy setting is public. Certain videos may be hidden from Charts if Restricted Mode is turned on. Learn more about Restricted Mode here.
