Okay, something is definitely wrong. I stopped the index creation after ~5h. I then tried running it on a small subsample of data, and realized that even with only 1 row in the table, when nlist=1, index creation never finishes (never = I waited ~10 minutes with a single row). Setting nlist=2 or more works as expected.
