From a discussion with @shakuzen, we think it would be good to update the generator to use mentions rather than Markdown links when listing the contributors. This will allow the contributor recognition that GitHub now does automatically to find the mentioned users and display their avatars:

To avoid things become too visually heavy, I think it might also be worth restyling the list of contributors to be a comma-separated list rather than a bulleted list.
