Principal Data Engineer at HealthVerity
Ron DeFreitas is a Principal Data Engineer at HealthVerity, where he leads initiatives to modernize and scale the company’s data platform. With over 25 years of experience in software development—and more than a decade dedicated to large-scale data systems—Ron specializes in Databricks, Apache Spark, and modern ETL architectures.
He currently heads the Theseus project as it's lead engineer and architect, a next-generation data pipeline framework built on the Databricks architecture and designed to improve scalability, observability, and speed-to-value. The platform leverages Delta Live Tables, Unity Catalog, Databricks Serverless, and Databricks Asset Bundles to deliver both batch and streaming workloads with best-practice CI/CD and automated testing.
A passionate mentor and advocate for data engineering excellence, Ron has a proven track record of designing unified analytics ecosystems and helping teams adopt modern tools and methodologies. At the DATA+AI Summit, he shares his expertise in building scalable, maintainable, and future-ready data platforms.
