Insolar Blockchain Platform is a software (or simply - a code) that can be used to deploy and run public and private blockchain networks. The code of Insolar Blockchain Platform is developed by Insolar Technologies and is predominantly open source, meaning that anyone is able to deploy it within their own network for non-commercial purposes.

Insolar Technologies, the company behind Insolar Blockchain Platform, provides the platform as open source and has patents pending on several platform features in order to protect the platform and its users from patent squatters. These patents are available royalty-free to users of Insolar MainNet. Insolar Technologies is fully responsible for the repository maintenance of Insolar Blockchain Platform software and source code. Although the source code is freely accessible, solutions (end products) developed for commercial use by organizations will be subject to commercial licensing, and the code for such solutions will not be publicly available.

Anyone is able to build solutions on top of Insolar Blockchain Platform. Insolar Technologies offers three collaboration scenarios:

• Custom development by the application development team of Insolar Technologies that can develop solutions on Insolar Blockchain Platform for businesses in spheres where blockchain brings value. These solutions are production-ready, full-scale applications with full-service support from Insolar Technologies.
• Proprietary development of solutions on Insolar Blockchain Platform with supervision from Insolar Technologies’ dedicated engineers that provide full support and expertise for external developers.
• Education of external developers to enable them to create their own solutions on Insolar Blockchain Platform. As such, the Insolar team is also very active in the forums and Github, in addition to social media channels to respond ad hoc to specific queries that developers may have about creating a solution on Insolar Blockchain Platform. Moreover, Insolar also holds master classes, educational seminars and hackathons to demonstrate the use and capabilities of Insolar Blockchain Platform.

Development of Insolar Blockchain Platform is funded by investments raised by Insolar Technologies in 2017. Though Insolar Blockchain Platform is fully open to the public and therefore not profitable by itself, it operates as the backbone of Insolar's solutions.

Insolar Technologies builds solutions serving different industries and use cases, where distributed ledger and smart contracts are able to improve connections and interactions between businesses. Such industries include: Supply Chain & Logistics, Retail & Consumer Goods, Manufacturing, Automotive, Energy & Utilities, Pharmaceuticals, Healthcare, Insurance. Insolar focuses on these industries as it has identified them as sectors in which blockchain adoption can drive real value.

Concurrently, Insolar Technologies aims to provide its customers with end-to-end solutions, meaning that its solutions feature not only the blockchain components, but also other elements of different technology stacks (for example IoT and AI, as well as integration with non-blockchain systems), in addition to UI/UX.

Insolar Blockchain Platform has hybrid capabilities, meaning that it can be used for public networks, private networks, or hybridize them.

Since 100% of the source code of Insolar Blockchain Platform is made freely available, any non-commercial use of the source code is permitted for any purpose set out by the licensing. This means that individuals are welcome to deploy their own blockchains using Insolar Blockchain Platform.

You are allowed to:

• do anything with the source code for non-commercial purposes (such as educational, research or out of mere curiosity) or internal business purposes (i.e. only for internal operations), including making changes to the code and developing new works based on it;
• build applications for Insolar Mainnet, which you may provide as a service to others outside your company.

You are not allowed to:

• use the software to provide any commercial service, including any software-as-a-service, platform-as-a-service, infrastructure-as-a-service or other similar online service, irrespective of whether it competes with our products/services or not, to anyone outside your company;
• distribute the source code.
