Paused video sometimes looks blocky / low-res while while resizing window from small to large #5022

Description

System and IINA version:

  • macOS 14.4.1
  • IINA develop db43614

Expected behavior:

Smooth scaling of the video resolution when the player window is resized

Actual behavior:

Video resolution is fixed at the start of resize and only udpates after resize is done.

Steps to reproduce:

This is most apparent when resizing while paused.

  1. Open a video in IINA. Use a high-resolution video with fine details such as text for more obvious results.
  2. Pause the video.
  3. Resize the window down to its minimum size.
  4. Seek ahead in the video ~ 15 sec.
  5. Using the cursor, drag from the window's corner to expand the window to a much larger size, but do not release it yet. Notice the blockiness of the video picture.
  6. Release the cursor to end the drag. Notice that the video regains its fine detail and is no longer blocky.
  • MPV does not have this problem.

How often does this happen?

Always

Watch the Dolby Digital trademark below, and notice the sudden change when I release the mouse in the last second:
