At some point in the distant past, the OS X GitHub Desktop app greyed out any characters past 50 and displayed a little notice about 50 characters being a suggested character limit for commit messages. I’d love to see something like that come back.

I’m not married to the idea of text getting greyed out (although that was great), I’m more interested in the concept coming back in whatever form would work best in the current app.

I do realize this is a pretty minor feature, but it’d be nice to have on the todo list at some point.
