Renovate currently has a limited coverage here, supporting only go module updates and docker base images. As a result, there are a couple of tools that end up pinned to quite old versions because they are currently only updated manually (see #337 for example).

Renovate could be updated with regexManagers to cover those tools, see current setup in cilium/cilium for reference.
