Fixes #31973
Reverts #31889 and does something closer to #31888 instead, but only dynamically shrinking the main column to fit the screen, not affecting windows larger than 1206px.
We could also consider lowering the mobile breakpoint further, as arguably the points made in #31973 still apply to the layout right below the breakpoint, but at least this PR reverts it to the 4.2 behavior.
