Newcomers that choose their OS first and then want a board to go with won't find much help in the very long board selection list.

I'd like to address this through two avenues:

• Better board metadata -- see forum thread; that's a high-effort long-term thing.

• Recommended boards. We may not want to endorse particular hardware as a community, but these could be "personal picks", like "this board, who recommends it, and why do they like it". This could sit on top of the boards list, or even on the website. The recent forum question contains a few pointers already.

  I think this could be implemented quite quickly, provided we get 3 or 4 personal board recommendations.
