In our Arts and education for change funding, we look for projects that support our values in promoting racial justice, human rights and the environment. We supported a project at @weareintermission, as part of our Arts and education for change funding, enabling young people to use theatre to realise their own potential, and transform their own lives. Other projects arts and education projects funded include (but not limited to): Hear Me Out Music Artis Foundation Liberty Choir UK Book Clubs in Schools See our website for projects we have funded: https://lnkd.in/evw8zsmd #artsandeducationforchange #artsandculture #artsandeducation #theatreprojects #musicprojects #socialclubs #bookclubs #youththeatre #networkforsocialchange

Network is made up of 100+ members from all over the UK. What we have in common is wanting to use our pooled resources to make the world safer and fairer for all. The process of assessing and sponsoring projects together, gives meaning to our donations in a way that simply ticking a donate box does not. We enjoy working together, learning all the time from each other, and from our grantees. These are just some of the benefits of becoming a member of Network: - Gaining confidence and experience by coming together to find, assess and fund projects - Members learn about effective grant making and helping projects prepare a good grant - Assessing projects and meeting with the amazing individuals and groups that we fund - Learning, and enjoying giving at our twice yearly conferences - Enjoying being together, and having a good time in different parts of the UK - Pledging funds, visiting projects and learning from external speakers - Discussing and reflecting on wider issues and sharing in the ‘work’ of Network together - Creating a safe space at conferences to reflect on personal issues around money - Helping each other with practical matters such as setting up charitable giving See more about applying for, and the benefits of, membership on our website: https://lnkd.in/eptYJPPw #networkforsocialchange #bettertogether #networkmembership #socialimpact

Many of Network's projects both in the UK and overseas seek to address and rectify the marginalisation, disempowerment and abuse of women. For example, a recent social enterprise project we funded in Glasgow, Saheliya, provides practical support for minority women who have experienced racial inequality. Other projects funded include (but not limited to): The STEMinist Foundation, Ghana Beyond Equality @xenia-women Global Girl Project Black Girls Hike UK C.I.C Find out more about these and other projects on our website: https://lnkd.in/evw8zsmd #networkforsocialchange #women #girls #girlslead #sisterhood #positivemasculinity #allyship

Having projects proposed by our members means meeting with the amazing individuals and groups that we fund. This enables us to really 'get' one another, as can be seen in this quote given by one of our grantees The Landworkers' Alliance : Alyce Biddell, at Landworkers’ Alliance says: "Network for Social Change has supported Landworkers’ Alliance since 2020. Our organisation was then just five years old, with a small team of staff and a growing number of members. Network’s support has funded much of our core operation, enabling us to grow into a body of over 25 part time staff and a membership of over 2,500 landworkers. We also have numerous active partnerships with other like minded organisations and groups, all calling for change to dominant and unjust food systems. We are now successfully creating an active food sovereignty movement in the UK. Network ‘gets’ the importance of unrestricted funding, and your grant has been crucial for us. A.S, a NSC member, talks about how Network has helped them to use their privilege for good: "I joined Network in my mid-thirties after receiving an unexpected inheritance from my grandfather. I felt guilty at possessing unearned wealth, ashamed of having profited from the work of others and isolated from peers who did not know my financial situation. I wanted to redistribute my inheritance in line with my values but lacked the knowledge and skills to do this effectively. Network has given me access to people, projects and organisations that I would never have come across otherwise and that I feel privileged to support financially, as well as to a community of like-minded people with whom to share my ‘giving journey’. As Jonathan Gordon-Farleigh says, it's probably going to be long process, and such a worthwhile one! Here's to social clubs and local communities coming together. Great to hear how Network helped to play a part in this; thank you for sharing how these kind of projects develop over time.
I’m honestly feeling really inspired today. Last year, I spent a lot of time trying to convince people that we might be overlooking one of the most important collective institutions in civil society: the social club. It wasn’t easy. While many were sympathetic, most were pretty fatalistic about their chances of survival, and even those who were more optimistic pointed out it had been tried before – without much success. Before giving up, I wondered if we could find a small grant to create a national survey to highlight both the value and vulnerabilities of social clubs to a wider audience. With support from Network for Social Change, we published the report (https://lnkd.in/e6DAmSEi) at the beginning of the year and it started opening up the conversation about how we value existing social infrastructure, how we can protect mutual assets, and the often invisible roles that clubs play in their neighbourhoods. Around the same time, I read a brilliant piece by the newly elected Kirsty McNeill MP for the Social Market Foundation calling for a '21st Century Club Charter'. I’d never worked with an MP before and wasn’t sure what to expect – but it felt like something we could genuinely contribute to. After a quick reply from Kirsty, and after a few conversations with Randi Lawrence on her team and Caitlin Prowle from the Co-operative Party, we started planning a series of roundtables to bring together club members to talk about their purpose, training needs, financial support, and policy reforms that could reverse the sector’s fortunes. Without funding, we decided to get going in early May with a visit to Bilston Miners Welfare in Kirsty’s constituency in Scotland. In the following months, we’ve been to Trade Halls and other kinds of Social Clubs across Scotland, England, and Wales, listening carefully and drawing out the experiences, challenges, and hopes of club communities. And just a couple of weeks ago, we got some really good news: the The Co-operative Bank plc @and Co-operatives UK have come on board to support it! Yesterday, a small group of inspiring social club leaders sat down in a meeting room in Westminster Hall with the Minister of Local Growth – Alex Norris – to give evidence about their value to local communities and the challenges they’re facing as a movement. Thanks to Kirsty McNeill MP and Randi Lawrence, we also managed to have an impromptu roundtable in the garden at No.10 before we left. It feels like the beginning of a long process to recognise, protect, and revitalise our country’s remaining social clubs, but I’m really looking forward to the Centre for Democratic Business' national conference (https://lnkd.in/guY6zRzK) at the Mildmay Club & Institute on 11th September. Join us if you can!

The climate crisis, biodiversity loss, renewable energy, pollution of all kinds, marine conservation and transport are all covered by our 🌍 Environment 🌍 funding area. As part of their work campaigning for ocean recovery, we supported Wildlife and Countryside Link, who co-ordinate many of the groups working to protect our oceans from pollution and over-fishing. #networkforsocialchange #environmentalcampaigns #marineconservation #uksealife #ukwildlife #saveourseas #protectouroceans
