Roaming has quietly become both. ✈️ Travel is now a core lifestyle category for millennials and Gen Z. 📱 Mobile data usage keeps rising.And travel eSIMs have seen an 8x growth in just two years. 🏦 Fintech players like Nubank and Revolut saw the trend early. They introduced roaming not just as a benefit—but as a new revenue stream. 💵 Free gigabytes? Just the entry point. The real business lies in top-ups, repeat usage, and soon… local plans. 🧨 Their ambition? To become the connectivity wallet for their users. It's high-margin, high-frequency, and still full of untapped potential. And it’s changing what we expect from telecom. Most IDs are designed for machines, not people. But if you want an API that's truly easy to use and understand, they need to be optimized for both. At Gigs, we needed an ID format that was: • Sortable in time for efficient pagination • Namespaced for seamless sharding • Hard to guess for security • Human-readable for better debugging and UX ULIDs got us close — but not close enough. So we designed GSIDs: a format combining a resource prefix, a timestamp, a customer namespace, and a random value into a compact, Base62-encoded string.
