About us

The CPPA was created in 2020 following the approval of Proposition 24 by California voters. The CPPA is responsible for the implementation and administrative enforcement of the nation’s first comprehensive consumer privacy law, the California Consumer Privacy Act, including as amended by Proposition 24, the California Privacy Rights Act; for promoting public awareness and understanding of the risks, responsibilities, and rights in relation to the collection, use, and disclosure of Californians’ personal information, and for providing guidance to consumers and businesses on complex matters relating to online privacy, cybersecurity, and automated decision-making, among other duties.

  • The California Privacy Protection Agency has opened the formal public comment period for proposed modifications to regulations for the Accessible Deletion Mechanism, known as the Delete Request and Opt-out Platform (DROP) System, set to launch in 2026.   • The CPPA Board has ordered data broker Accurate Append, Inc. to pay a $55,400 fine for failing to resolve claims that it did not timely register, as required by the Delete Act.    “This settlement shows, once again, the peril faced by data brokers who fail to register,” said Michael Macko, the CPPA’s head of enforcement. “We’re committed to bringing transparency to the industry, and vigorous enforcement of California’s registration requirement is key to that effort.”    Fines from the Data Broker Registry help fund DROP — a first-of-its-kind platform launching in 2026 to let Californians delete their personal info from all registered data brokers with one click.   • At today’s meeting, the California Privacy Protection Agency Board unanimously voted to adopt proposed rulemaking on Automated Decisionmaking Technology (ADMT) Regulations, Cybersecurity Audits, Risk Assessments, Insurance, and CCPA Updates. This proposed regulation package will strengthen Californians’ privacy rights, giving them more control over how their personal information is used and increasing transparency when businesses use ADMT. The CPPA is grateful for the contributions of the Board and the invaluable feedback received from all stakeholders throughout the rulemaking process. After today’s vote, the Agency will take all necessary steps to complete the rulemaking process, including filing the proposed regulations with the Office of Administrative Law.     • Privacy Enhancing Settings on mobile Devices.  You can be tracked using a mobile device too. #1 Open settings Privacy. tap "Tracking" or "Ads" and #2 Turn on "Delete advertising ID" or "Opt our of Ads personalization" Some apps still have their own privacy settings. You can open their settings and turn off tracking.
