Modern slavery is an issue that’s hidden in plain sight across the UK. It’s when people lose their freedom and are exploited by other people for personal or commercial gain. To raise awareness of the issue, we created the Unfair Jobs Fair, a campaign to help put a stop to this awful crime. Why now, you may ask? Yesterday was the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, observed annually on December 2. This day is dedicated to eradicating modern forms of slavery, raising awareness about human trafficking, and advocating for the rights and dignity of all individuals, especially those who have been victims of these injustices. Watch the video and see how we turned what looked like an ordinary jobs fair into a lesson on how easily exploitation can occur in our everyday lives. #SlaveryAbolition #Recruitment

About us
Migrant Help exists to protect people affected by displacement and exploitation, helping them thrive as individuals and recover from their trauma. We support those most in need and least likely to find support elsewhere, whilst aiming to bridge community gaps and bring services and support together. We offer support and guidance to people seeking asylum, refugees and survivors of modern slavery across the UK. Whether someone has fled persecution, escaped from slavery or found themselves in a situation that they do not understand, Migrant Help offers advice, support and a place of safety. We are proud of our diverse and committed staff team. We currently employ people from more than 40 countries. Many of our advisers come from refugee backgrounds and have gone through the asylum process or experienced human trafficking themselves. These dedicated people contribute their skills and experience to help us provide high quality, innovative services that seek to meet the needs of the vulnerable men, women and children we support.

Let’s talk about seeking asylum and the language we use. Seeking asylum is a legal right. Regardless of how someone arrives in the UK, the act of claiming asylum is not illegal. Yet, this recent YouGov poll and article lean heavily on the term “illegal”, which raises important questions about how language shapes public perception. When people are repeatedly told that seeking asylum is “illegal”, it frames people seeking asylum as criminals, which can breed fear and resentment. Language matters. It influences how we see others, how communities are treated, and how policies are shaped. So, let’s be accurate. Take a look at our 'Get Your Facts Straight' booklet, which provides you the facts you need to challenge the skewed narrative surrounding people seeking sanctuary. https://lnkd.in/eaaVVWw8 #RefugeesWelcome #SupportPeopleSeekingAsylum

A false claim that homeless veterans were evicted to house people seeking asylum went viral – but this article sets the record straight. Misinformation like this fuels hate and division, especially against our community’s most vulnerable. It’s vital we meet false narratives with facts. Supporting different groups of vulnerable people is not mutually exclusive. We believe that every person deserves a helping hand when facing a difficult situation, regardless of their background. #RefugeesWelcome #SupportPeopleSeekingAsylum

Our crisis fund is the last resort when no other provision is in place to help. This will support survivors of slavery and people seeking asylum across the UK, who are often the most vulnerable in our society. When people come to Migrant Help for support with nothing but the clothes they are wearing, your donation will help provide essential items such as warm clothing, shoes, food parcels and toiletries. Donate or sign-up to fundraise via the link below. https://lnkd.in/eCHXQcua #RefugeesWelcome #SupportPeopleSeekingAsylum #CrisisFund

For people in crisis, the pursuit of art can be a lifeline – offering a way to heal, express, and cope with traumatic experiences. Last year’s art exhibition raised over £1,000 through donated works. This October, we’re doing it again: showcasing powerful pieces and personal stories from the incredible individuals we support. Want to contribute art? Speak to your adviser or send us a message. #EndModernSlavery #EndHumanTrafficking #Fundraising #HealingThroughArt #SupportSurvivors

It is mind-blowing to us that the RNLI and their crew were ever put in a position to have to justify saving human lives. We applaud their courage and dedication to rescuing people at sea, and it’s heartbreaking to see them targeted on social media for doing what’s right. But the truth is, their work highlights a deeper issue. Creating more safe routes into the UK is crucial. Without them, countless people will continue risking their lives – fleeing war, violence, and exploitation – in search of sanctuary. #RefugeesWelcome #SupportPeopleSeekingSanctuary

People seeking asylum in the UK have often endured unimaginable trauma on their journey to safety. It’s heartbreaking that this suffering is being added to by these “protests.” When seeking sanctuary, people deserve to feel safe and welcomed – not anxious and afraid. That’s why it’s more important than ever to stand against this vocal minority and show refugees and people seeking asylum in the UK that they are truly welcome. #RefugeesWelcome #SupportPeopleSeekingAsylum
