Exploitation takes many forms. Every survivor of modern slavery has a unique history and a unique set of experiences. From the point of being referred to Hope for Justice, the way we work with each survivor, and how long for, varies greatly. But in every instance, we put the survivor at the centre. We work closely alongside each individual to ensure they are empowered to achieve their preferred outcomes. This means that recovery times and goals vary. We recognise that each survivor has an individual response to exploitation. And we journey with them on their unique pathway to recovery. Your support could change the life of a survivor. An important insight from the article at the link: "Modern slavery is not just a social issue; it’s a material investment risk that can erode value, damage trust and expose portfolios to mounting legal liabilities. While institutional investors are paying closer attention to the problem, they still face major hurdles in addressing it. Detection is difficult, tools are fragmented, disclosure is inconsistent, and the issue often hides deep in supply chains where oversight is weakest." Slave-Free Alliance offers expert advice, consultancy and training to help you to overcome these hurdles and protect your organisation against the risk of modern slavery and labour exploitation happening in your supply chain. Richard Schoeberl, Ph.D. Is passionate, informed and the best in the business. Hope for Justice and Slave-Free Alliance truly a worthwhile organization to support. One that saves lives, rescues those in need and educates the rest of us.
More than 50 law enforcement agencies across Tennessee have received Police Officer Standards Training (POST) from Hope for Justice so far this year. We’re proud to deliver this training, which ensures that law enforcement officers know how to recognise the indicators of both sex trafficking and labour trafficking. It also equips them with the skills to conduct survivor-centred interviews. This means that they take a trauma-informed approach and prioritise a victim’s needs throughout investigations into human trafficking cases. Our team has also taught agencies specific investigative strategies that are designed to disrupt trafficking operations and to protect survivors. Today is 𝗨𝗡 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀. We want to mark this day by highlighting how online grooming of children is linked to serious exploitation and trafficking situations. A survey of 6,000 teachers found that 71% knew of children under 13 using social media platforms. Teachers are also reporting more abuse and the malicious use of ‘deepfakes’ on social media platforms. The threat of explicit images being shared, both real and deepfakes, is a method that traffickers often use to blackmail their young victims into more extreme types of exploitation. We urge parents and caregivers to head to the Hope for Justice website, support our #SafeSummerOnline campaign so that more children can be protected, and take our free award-winning course, 'Keeping Kids Safe In the Digital World' https://lnkd.in/eYwS8R3p

Hope for Justice and Slave-Free Alliance have responded to a report by Parliament’s Joint Committee on Human Rights. - We call on the UK Government to take a person-centred approach to tackling forced labour in supply chains. - The report echoes our calls for mandatory Human Rights Due Diligence (mHRDD) which would legislate a duty for businesses to prevent forced labour - We also urge them to be very considered if they choose to introduce import bans, which could impact legitimate and exploited workers internationally and in Britain. - Our teams recommend a cross-government strategy, which acknowledges that every department will have a role to play in the response to modern slavery. Our team of Independent Modern Slavery Advocates® (IMSAs®) in the UK has worked alongside more than 200 adult survivors over the last five years. Each of these IMSA clients has received independent advocacy to help them understand their rights and navigate the complex systems and services of support in the UK. IMSAs advocate for survivors to ensure they can overcome barriers, make informed decisions about their recovery and reduce their risk of re-exploitation. Hope for Justice works on complex cases for both national (UK) and international survivors. The UK team has also engaged with hundreds of other adult survivors since 2020 in shorter-term capacities, for instance through our IMSA Advocacy Advice Service. Find out how the IMSA model is being piloted across the UK to give all adult survivors access to an accredited independent advocate: https://lnkd.in/eYZsa_4B

Hot off the press! 🗞️ The Joint Committee on Human Rights’ has just published a report on “Forced Labour in UK Supply Chains” - and we're really pleased to see strong findings and powerful recommendations to advance the UK's approach 🙌🏼 The report highlights: 🔺 Evidence that goods produced or partially produced with forced labour are still entering the UK 🔺 Current legislation is ineffective and voluntary due diligence is inefficient - mandatory human rights due diligence legislation (with SME provisions) is needed 🔺 The UK is falling far short against international best practice and risks becoming a 'dumping ground' for goods made with forced labour 🔺 Import bans are an effective tool, especially in the case of state-imposed forced labour, and existing legislation could be used to address forced labour in supply chains 🔺 UK trade deals include forced labour clauses, but lack implementation, assessment, and enforcement 🔺 Access to remedy/redress for survivors is not streamlined and its rare, expensive and complex The report also sets out a set of recommendations: 🟢 Legislate a duty to prevent forced labour with mHRDD 🟢 Introduce import bans on goods made with forced labour 🟢 Introduce liability frameworks 🟢 Embed human rights clauses in trade agreements and assess impacts 🟢 Strengthen public procurement policies 🟢 Enhance enforcement 🟢 Facilitate access to remedy/redress and streamline civil remedies for survivors Hope for Justice and Slave-Free Alliance #bizhumanrights #forcedlabour
